Chemical Film

Chemical Film, also known as chromate conversion coatings on aluminum, are used to retard and prevent corrosion, as a base for paint and as a protective surface having lower electrical contact resistance than anodized coatings. The coating generally provides protection in proportion to film thickness. It provides good protection against marine and humid environments. The hexavalent chromium compounds in chromate conversion films have self-healing characteristics on minor abraded or scratched surfaces. Corrosion properties are best under 160 deg. f.
